RadioTime’s Beta Launch on Slim Devices' SqueezeBox is a big hit

September 01, 2006

Image of SqueezeBox

Recently, we worked with the team at Slim Devices to see what their users thought of adding the RadioTime RadioGuide™ to their service. We've worked with a lot of media adapters to know this is one of the best. The team at Slim Devices was great to work with and the actual project went from proof of concept to beta in record time. Our standard web services made it fast and relatively simple to integrate. Huge thanks to Dean, Patrick and Andy at Slim Devices and our very own Carl and Steve for making this happen.

Anyone interested in an audio system can buy a SqueezeBox for as low as $249, hook it up to speakers, access RadioTime to listen to favorite stations and your radio recordings (with the SlimServer 6.5b1 beta release or later) or even your own personal music collection, and have what you want to hear when and where you want it.

Travis tookSqueezebox home to show his wife and there is skepticism that we will ever get it back! Sorry Slim Devices, probably happens all the time. Squeeze Box owners love it and everyone that visits them is really impressed. All you do is plug and play. It's even wi-fi enabled and the sound quality is great. The unit is small and portable, and the UI is snappy fast. See how it works

Even better, SqueezeBox users gave really great feedback on their community forums regarding the RadioTime plugin. Read for yourself. We really admire Slim Devices' commitment to user feedback. We are all excited here at RadioTime and look forward to being added to the next SqueezeNetwork release!

Check out more details about RadioTime on the Squeezebox.

Digital Hollywood - Santa Monica

April 12, 2006

RadioTime was again a panelist at Digital Hollywood last week in Santa Monica. The theme was “Music Industry Innovates and Morphs: Radio, Blogs, P2P, Ad Revenue Concepts, Cable/TV Innovation”

The heart of the session was a debate between StreamCast and the RIAA followed by lots of audience questions to StreamCast.

The audience showed a sophisticated understanding of the legal issues surrounding digital media and the RIAA. Whether Morpheus previously violated United States Copyright laws from the most recent Supreme Court decision in MGM v. Grokster & StreamCast Networks is questionable. However, the RIAA’s tactics for enforcing copyright holder’s rights is understood by both technologists and consumers. Everyone agreed this model is broken and that consumers have embraced peer-to-peer distribution.

The entertainment industry seems to go through technology cycles. First, ignoring technology as insignificant. Next attempting to stop technology through legal action. Attempting to control the technology, and then finally, embracing and profiting from new technology.

We are in the phase where entertainment companies want to control the technology. The panel concluded they are unlikely to fully embrace it until 2007.

This August RadioTime will be on another Digital Hollywood panel to discuss further.

Beyond Recording

September 29, 2005

Today Peter Svensson an AP Technology writer published a short review of three competitive "radio recorder" software products.

Peter appreciated a few of our strengths, but he gave the nod to a competitor called Replay-Radio. He felt RadioTime was more confusing. Congratulations to the good folks at Replay-Radio.

The short review covered recording streaming programs. We'll argue why our recording is best. But radio is also great live. This post responds to a few points then outlines some our our unique advantages as a consumer service.

June 27, 2005

DALLAS, June 27, 2005 The International Business Development Network (IBDNetwork), has published the winners of the Under the Radar | Consumer Technologies Innovation awards and Audience Choice awards. The winners were announced at the close of the one-day Under the Radar event, which was held in Mountain View on May 31, 2005. The event showcased over 32 innovative companies in four consumer technology sectors: search, mobile applications, social software & tools, and home & entertainment. Each company presented to a panel of VC judges, audience members, and industry experts for the opportunity to be named one of the companies most likely to succeed.

“The Under the Radar Innovation Award winners represent some of consumer technology’s most exciting and promising companies,” said Alison Murdock, co-founder and president of IBDNetwork. “The winners, most of whom have received less than two rounds of funding, had five minutes to show their potential for success based on their breakthrough technology solutions, market opportunities, and ability to articulate clear and compelling value propositions. The winners were selected by the audience and a panel of VC judges. We wish the winners the best of luck and look forward to tracking their progress in the future.”

Under the Radar was sponsored by Acteva, Comerica Bank, Intel Capital, LEWIS PR, Perkins Coie, and UK Trade & Investment. The event was hosted by Microsoft.

May 31, 2005

RadioTime won the 2005 Under The Radar Consumer Technologies competition sponsored by IBD Networks. Hundreds of companies are nominated, the investor committee then selects 4 finalist for each track.
